Actually, that sounds like a scary day to be a Floridian. A day dedicated to our sworn enemies, the sinkhole, and a..what? Um, no thank you! Ohhhh… you said Cinco de Mayo. My bad. I remember what that is all about other than tacos and, gulp, some Corona.
Actually, folks, May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) is the date used to observe the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla, and has also become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. Cinco de Mayo, however is sometimes mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, which is September 16.
And then, the stars aligned…Cinco de Mayo this year falls on a Taco Tuesday, that happens to also be a Takeout Tuesday. So, my friends, if there has been a time to go a pick up some yummy tacos from your favorite taco joint, this is it. Oh, and did I also mention it’s Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a world wide generosity movement, empowering people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. A few ideas to participate in Giving Tuesday include volunteering, becoming an advocate, donating money or goods, practicing acts of kindness (which by the way, you can and should do everyday!) and donating your talent.
Personally, I think the concept of Giving Tuesday should be applied to everyday. Why not practice acts of kindness all the time, I mean shouldn’t we treat others the way we want to be treated? And advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves, ummm, duh, no brainer. Volunteering, check. Well, you get the idea.
However you spend the day, I hope it’s fatabulous (and filled with yummy tacos 😉
